Origin: Either (i) a borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element. Or (ii) a borrowing from Greek, combined with an English element. Etymons: Latin psittacus , -oid suffix; Greek ψιττακός , -oid suffix.
Etymology: < classical Latin psittacus or its etymon Hellenistic Greek ψιττακός parrot (see psittac n.) + -oid suffix. Compare earlier psittacid adj., psittacine adj., psittacean adj., psittaceous adj.
