Origin: A borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element. Etymons: Latin pulicarius , -ous suffix.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin pulicarius of or belonging to fleas (5th cent.; < classical Latin pūlic- , pūlex flea (see pulicine adj.) + -ārius -ary suffix1) + -ous suffix. Compare French pulicaire resembling flea bites (1810; earlier in the name of a disease (1785 or earlier) and in sense ‘pertaining to fleawort’: see pulicary adj.). Compare earlier pulicary adj., pulicious adj., pulicous adj.
Obsolete.
Of the nature of or resembling a flea.Apparently an isolated use.
