Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin prūrīgō.
Etymology: < classical Latin prūrīgō itching, sexual excitement < prūrīre to itch (see prurient adj. and n.) + -īgō , suffix forming nouns. Compare earlier pruriginous adj.
1. Itching; pruritus; an instance of this. Also figurative: an insatiable urge or desire. Obsolete.
