单词 pulmo-
释义

pulmo-comb. form

Stress is usually determined by a subsequent element and vowels may be reduced accordingly.
Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin pulmō.
Etymology: < classical Latin pulmō lung (see pulme n.); compare -o- connective. Compare scientific Latin pulmo- (formations in which are found from at least the early 19th cent.; compare pulmobranchia n.).Found in a small number of formations and adaptations of scientific Latin and French words, all belonging to scientific vocabulary. Formations within English are found from the early 19th cent., apparently earliest in pulmometer n. Chiefly combining with second elements ultimately of Greek origin. The expected regular combining form of classical Latin pulmōn- , pulmō would be *pulmōni- , but no compounds in this are attested. Compare pulmoni- comb. form.
