Zoology. Obsolete. rare.
An organ regarded as a gill modified for breathing air, spec. (a) a book-lung in certain arachnids; (b) the respiratory cavity of a pulmonate gastropod.

1897 New Sydenham Soc. Lexicon Pulmo-branchiæ, the modified gills of certain animals (Arachnids, air-breathing Mollusca) adapted for air-breathing.
