Origin: A borrowing from German. Etymon: German Pulmotor.
Etymology: < German Pulmotor (1907 or earlier), blend of classical Latin pulmō lung (see pulme n.) and German Motor motor n.The apparatus was invented by Heinrich Dräger and produced by the Drägerwerke company in Lübeck.
An apparatus used to provide artificial respiration by automatically inflating the lungs with air or oxygen; a portable emergency ventilator. Also figurative.
