Origin: A borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element. Etymons: Latin punctum , -gerous comb. form.
Etymology: < classical Latin punctum (see point n.1) + -gerous comb. form.
Zoology. rare.
Bearing or including a small round structure or marking resembling a point. In quot. 1883: spec. designating a simple type of eye present in some invertebrates, lacking a lens and consisting of one or more minute pits (pigment cups) lined with light-sensitive cells (cf. lentigerous adj.).
