Etymology: < the genitive of the name of Adam (see Adam n.1) + needle n., with allusion to Adam and Eve sewing together fig leaves in Genesis 3:7.
1. Any of several yucca plants with narrow sharp-pointed leaves, esp. (in early use) Yucca gloriosa, and (now more usually) Y. filamentosa, both native to eastern North America and cultivated elsewhere in gardens. Also Adam's needle-and-thread. Cf. yucca n. 2.
