pupillatev.

Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymons: Latin pupillat-, pupillare.
Etymology: < an unattested post-classical Latin form *pupillat-, past participial stem (see -ate suffix3) of *pupillare to cry like a peacock (see note). The post-classical Latin form *pupillare is recorded in Latin-English dictionaries, from at least 1565, and attributed to the Carmen de Philomela (10th cent.). The passage in question has post-classical Latin paupulat , third person singular indicative (apparently < classical Latin pāvus or pāvō peacock (see pawn n.2); perhaps compare ululare ululate v.). Post-classical Latin*pupillat may represent a manuscript variant; surviving variants include pupulat, pululat, and pulpulat.
Obsolete. rare. Apparently only attested in dictionaries or glossaries.
intransitive. To cry like a peacock.
