Etymology: Originally < puzzle n. + head n.1 + -ed suffix2. In later use probably partly also < puzzle-head n. + -ed suffix2. Compare slightly later puzzle-pated adj. Compare also later puzzle-pate n.
Having a puzzled head; having confused ideas, bewildered; (also) resulting from puzzled thinking; muddled, confused.
