单词 pycnide
释义

pycniden.

Brit. /ˈpɪknʌɪd/, U.S. /ˈpɪkˌnaɪd/
Forms: 1800s– pycnid, 1800s– pycnide.
Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French pycnide.
Etymology: < French pycnide (L. R. Tulasne 1852, in Ann. des sci. nat.: Bot. 17 108: see below) < ancient Greek πυκνός thick, dense (see pycno- comb. form) + French -ide -id suffix2. Compare slightly later pycnidium n., and also later pycnis n.On the choice of the name compare the following:1852 L. R. Tulasne in Ann. des sci. nat. The Latin form pycnitis to which he refers has not been traced, nor is it certain what he intended by ‘(pycnidis, is, ou pycnodis, itis)’.
Mycology. Now rare.
Originally: a fruiting body of certain lichens. Later also: = pycnidium n.The plural pycnides may in some instances represent the plural of the Latin form or of pycnis n.

1856 W. L. Lindsay Pop. Hist. Brit. Lichens 75 The Pycnides..require only a few words of explanation... Their chief interest lies in their being a link in the chain which connects the Lichens with the Fungi.
1861 Trans. Royal Soc. Edinb. 22 105 Intermixed with the apothecia of these lichens, and with each other, may be a variety of spermogones and pycnides..it is often most difficult..to determine to what species of lichen each kind of spermogone or pycnide is to be referred.
1889 A. W. Bennett & G. R. M. Murray Handbk. Cryptogamic Bot. 374 In the third category there are pycnospores formed in pycnids interstitially arising on mycelial hyphae.
