Etymology: < classical Latin quassātiōn-, quassātiō violent shaking, in post-classical Latin also crushing, bruising (1363 in Chauliac) < quassāt- , past participial stem of quassāre to shake repeatedly, to cause to tremble violently, to damage, batter, bruise (see quash v.) + -iō -ion suffix1 (compare -ation suffix).
Obsolete.
