Etymology: < Middle French pielarge (apparently 1480 in the source translated in quot. 1484) < ancient Greek πελαργός stork (see Pelargic adj.). Compare post-classical Latin pelargus (a1482).Elsewhere in the text, large Foote is used to render French pielarge , apparently by false analysis of the French word as showing a compound of pied foot (see pied-à-terre n.); compare Middle French pied large (1526 in a later edition of the source translated in quot. 1484).

Obsolete. rare.

Probably: a stork (or perhaps a bustard).
