Etymology: < Pygmalion, the name of a character in Greek mythology (see Pygmalion n.) + -ism suffix, apparently after German Pygmalionismus (1894 or earlier).
Chiefly Psychology.
The condition of loving a statue, image, or inanimate object; sexual attraction towards such an object. Also: love for an object of one's own making.
