Etymology: Apparently < post-classical Latin pylemphraxis (although this is first attested slightly later: 1844 or earlier) < Hellenistic Greek πύλη portal vein (see pylephlebitis n.) + ancient Greek ἔμϕραξις stoppage, obstruction < ἐν- en- prefix² + ϕράξις barricade (see periphraxy n.).

Medicine. Obsolete. rare. Apparently only attested in dictionaries or glossaries.
