Etymology: < either quaere v. or query n.2 + -ist suffix. Compare earlier quaere n. and later query v. Compare also earlier querent n.1Compare post-classical Latin quarista (a1540), though the context implies this may be derived from classical Latin quārē ‘why’ (see quare impedit n.).
A person who asks or enquires; a questioner, an interrogator.
