Etymology: < French pyrobolique (1676 in the passage translated in quot. 1729; < post-classical Latin pyrobolicus (1650 in the passage translated by the French) < pyrobolia (see pyroboly n.) + classical Latin -icus -ic suffix) + -al suffix1; compare -ical suffix. Compare earlier pyrobolist n., and also pyrobolic adj. 2.
Obsolete. rare.
Of a weapon or device: that uses explosives to launch missiles.
