Etymology: Common West Germanic: Old English begēotan = Old Saxon bigiotan (Dutch begieten ), Old High German bigioȥan (Middle High German begieȥen, modern German begieszen ), < bi- , be- prefix 1 + giutan, in Old English gēotan to pour. (The mod. form would be be-yeet.)In Old English a strong verb of class II; distinctively strong inflections survive into early Middle English.
