Etymology: < racket n.1 + tail n.1, after racket-tailed adj.
1. Any of several hummingbirds having tails that bear a pair of rackets (racket n.1 5); esp. (in full booted racket-tail) the South American hummingbird Ocreatus underwoodii, which has greenish plumage with, in the male, tufts of white or buff down on the legs. In later use also: any of several green parrots of the genus Prioniturus, of the Malay Archipelago, which have tails of this kind. Cf. racket-tailed adj.
