单词 ragler
释义

raglern.

Brit. /ˈraɡlə/, U.S. /ˈræɡlər/
Forms: late Middle English 1900s– raglore, 1500s 1800s– ragler. N.E.D. (1903) also records a form raglar.
Origin: A variant or alteration of another lexical item. Etymon: Welsh rhaglaw.
Etymology: Alteration of Welsh rhaglaw regent, deputy, especially a lord's chief representative in a commot (13th cent.) < rhag- pre-, fore- (combining form of rhag before (12th cent.; also in Old Welsh in racdam before him) < the same Indo-European base as ancient Greek πρόκα at once: see proceres n.) + llaw hand (see palm n.2), after -er suffix1. Compare post-classical Latin raglarius (1485 in a British source), raglator (1461, 1485 in British sources), raglotus (from 14th cent. in British sources); also ragelotia, raglotia, ragloria raglership (frequently from 14th cent. in British sources). With forms in -or compare -or suffix. Quot. 1408 probably reflects subsequent borrowing of the Middle English word into Anglo-Norman (or use of the Middle English word in an Anglo-Norman context).
Now historical.
