Etymology: < Racoviae, name in post-classical Latin of Raków , a settlement in southern Poland + -an suffix; compare -ian suffix. Compare post-classical Latin Racovianus (1654 or earlier in Catechesis Racoviana Racovian Catechism).The Polish Brethren established their community at Raków in 1569. It was dispersed in a wave of persecutions beginning in 1638.
