单词 | radiata |
释义 | Radiatan.1 Zoology. With plural agreement. A major group of animals containing invertebrates whose body plan shows a radial structure: (originally) a division including coelenterates, echinoderms, and various intestinal and other worms (now historical); (now) a group comprising the cnidarians and ctenophores (i.e. coelenterates, in the broad sense). (Also in form radiata) animals of this group (collectively or individually). The Radiata (or Animalia radiata) formed one of the four divisions or embranchements of the animal kingdom in Cuvier's system, but this classification was abandoned in the light of more detailed understanding of the anatomy of the various groups, especially the echinoderms. Its use for coelenterates in modern classifications is a later revival of the term. ΚΠ 1828 J. Stark Elements Nat. Hist. II. 393 Division iv.—Radiata. 1842 H.
