Etymology: < rabbin n. + -ism suffix. Compare French rabbinisme rabbinical subtlety (1580; originally pejorative), period characterized by rabbinical teaching after the destruction of the Temple (a1662).
1. A characteristic or peculiarity of the language of the rabbis; a rabbinical expression. Formerly also: †rabbinical language or discourse.
