Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymons: Latin radicant-, radicans.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin radicant-, radicans rooting (although this is apparently first attested later: 1796 or earlier), use as adjective of classical Latin rādīcant- , rādīcāns , present participle of rādīcārī radicate v. Compare French radicant (1778).
Botany. Now rare.
Esp. of a stem or fern frond: producing (adventitious) roots or rootlets; rooting.
