Origin: Probably a variant or alteration of another lexical item. Etymon: raguled adj.
Etymology: Probably alteration (with suffix substitution: see -y suffix5) of raguled adj., perhaps influenced in form by nebuly adj., barruly adj., etc. Compare earlier ragged adj.1 3, ragged staff n.
Heraldry.
Of a cross, staff, or other charge: having short, oblique projections like sawn-off branches. Of a division between parts of a field: having alternate projections and depressions like a battlement, but set obliquely. Usually as postmodifier.
