Etymology: Origin uncertain; apparently a formation in -y suffix6, although the identity of the first element is unclear.Perhaps compare earlier regional use in a different sense:1912 Dialect Notes 3 571 Binky, any little mechanical contrivance.Compare also earlier use of Binky as a pet name for a male or female sweetheart, child, or domestic animal (attested from the beginning of the 20th cent., or earlier).
