Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin ratio decidendi.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin ratio decidendi (see quot. 1689) < classical Latin ratiō ratio n. + dēcīdendī , genitive of the gerund of dēcīdere decide v.1The phrase is apparently not attested in contextual use in post-classical Latin, although it is found in work titles from 1707 or earlier.
