Etymology: Either < rapine n. + -ous suffix, or < Middle French rapineux rapacious (13th cent. in Old French; French †rapineux ) < rapine rapine n. + -eux -ous suffix. Compare post-classical Latin rapinosus thievish (1483 in a British glossarial source).
Obsolete.
