Etymology: Blend of rap n.2 (see rap n.2 8c) and calypso n., perhaps influenced by soca n.
Originally Caribbean.
Spoken poetry of a type originating in Trinidad, frequently performed with a rhythmic or musical accompaniment incorporating elements of calypso; music featuring this, as a genre.
