Etymology: < scientific Latin ramellosus (1848 or earlier as specific epithet) < post-classical Latin ramellus small branch (14th cent. in British sources; < classical Latin rāmus branch (see ramus n.) + -ellus -ellus suffix) + classical Latin -ōsus -ose suffix1. Compare ramulus n. N.E.D. (1903) gives the pronunciation as (ræ·mĕlōus) /ˈræmələʊs/.
Botany. Obsolete. rare.
