Origin: A borrowing from Spanish. Etymon: Spanish ramón.
Etymology: < American Spanish ramón, specific use of Spanish ramón small branch or twig, especially used as fodder for livestock (1495) < ramo branch (see rame n.1) + -ón -oon suffix.
More fully ramon tree: any of several tropical American trees of the family Moraceae that have foliage and twigs used as fodder for livestock, esp. Trophis racemosa and Brosimum alicastrum. Also: the harvested foliage and twigs of such a tree.
