Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French ramoneur.
Etymology: < French ramoneur colour resembling that of soot (1843 or earlier), chimney sweep (c1470 in Middle French) < ramoner to sweep (c1210 in Old French; < ramon broom (although this is first attested slightly later: c1300; < rame branch (see rame n.1) + -on -oon suffix)) + -eur -eur suffix.
Obsolete. rare.
