Etymology: Probably < rash adj. + -ing suffix1. Compare Welsh rasien , rasin , rasyn (20th cent.), of uncertain origin. Compare earlier rash n.5, and also race n.8
Coal Mining. Chiefly U.S. and Welsh English.
A loose brittle deposit of shale or poor quality coal (see quot. 1964). Usually in plural. Cf. rash n.5
