Rear Admiral of Great Britain n. now historical an honorary title and post given between 1707 and 1800 by the sovereign of Great Britain to a senior admiral, often bestowed upon or during retirement.The title officially superseded that of Rear Admiral of England after the Act of Union of 1707, and was itself superseded by Rear Admiral of the United Kingdom after union with Ireland in 1801.
