Origin: A borrowing from Portuguese. Etymon: Portuguese reco-reco.
Etymology: < Brazilian Portuguese reco-reco, apparently imitative of the sound produced by this instrument.
In Latin American music: a percussion instrument consisting of a hollow tube or gourd with a ribbed outer surface which produces a rasping sound when rubbed with a stick. Cf. guiro n.
