单词 redowa
释义

redowan.

Brit. /ˈrɛdəvə/, U.S. /ˈrɛdəvə/
Forms:

α. 1800s– redovak, 1800s– redowak, 1900s– rédowak.

β. 1800s– redova, 1800s– redowa.

Also occasionally with capital initial.
Origin: Perhaps of multiple origins. Partly a borrowing from German. Apparently partly a borrowing from Polish. Perhaps also partly a borrowing from French. Etymons: German Redowak; Polish redowa; French rédowa; German Redowa.
Etymology: Originally (in α. forms) < German Redowak (1841 in the passage translated in quot. 1843) < Czech rejdovák , denoting a Bohemian folk dance (1837 or earlier as †reydowák ; further etymology uncertain and disputed). In β. forms apparently < Polish redowa (apparently 1844 or earlier: compare quot. 1844), probably (with unexplained alteration of the ending) < Czech rejdovák, perhaps originally via French rédowa or its etymon German Redowa (although both of these are apparently first attested slightly later: 1845 or earlier in French and 1849 or earlier in German; both are ultimately < Czech, probably via the Polish form).
A Bohemian folk dance; a ballroom dance in 3/4 or 3/8 time based on this. Also: a piece of music intended to accompany such a dance.
