Origin: Formed within English, by derivation; modelled on a French lexical item. Etymons: re- prefix, embark v.
Etymology: < re- prefix + embark v., after Middle French, French rembarquer (1527). Compare Italian reimbarcare (a1552 used transitively, a1605 used reflexively; also (now rare) rimbarcare).
1. intransitive. To board a ship again; (hence in extended use) to board any vehicle again. Occasionally with in, on. Also: to embark for a destination again. Also figurative.
