Origin: Formed within English, by derivation; apparently originally modelled on an Italian lexical item. Etymons: re- prefix, circle v.
Etymology: < re- prefix + circle v., apparently originally (in quot. 1611 at sense 1) after Italian †recirculare (1611 in Florio; now ricircolare ). Compare later recirculate v.
1. transitive. To circle (a person or thing) again; to move around in a circular path for a second or further time.Quot. 1611 could alternatively be interpreted as showing the intransitive sense 2.
