Origin: Formed within English, by derivation; perhaps modelled on an Italian lexical item, or perhaps modelled on a Latin lexical item. Etymons: re- prefix, circulation n.
Etymology: < re- prefix + circulation n., after either Italian †recirculatione (now ricircolazione ; 1611 in Florio in uncertain sense, probably ‘act of encircling again’: see quot. 1611; a1729 in sense ‘renewed or continuous circulation’) or post-classical Latin recirculatio action of returning to the point of departure by a circuit (4th cent.). Compare recircle v., recirculate v.
Renewed or continuous circulation; an instance of this. In later use also: the action or an act of recirculating or recycling something.In quot. 1611 probably: an act of encircling again (cf. recircle v. 1).
