单词 recitant
释义

recitantn.

Brit. /ˈrɛsᵻt(ə)nt/, U.S. /ˈrɛsəd(ə)nt/
Origin: Of uncertain origin. Partly a borrowing from French. Perhaps also formed within English, by derivation. Or perhaps also a borrowing from Latin. Etymons: French récitant ; recite v., -ant suffix1; Latin recitant-, recitāns, recitāre.
Etymology: Originally (in quot. ?1775) < French récitant (1768 in a musical context, in the passage translated), use as noun of present participle of réciter recite v. Compare French récitant (adjective) performing a solo part (1705 in a musical context). In later use either < recite v. + -ant suffix1, or perhaps < classical Latin recitant-, recitāns, present participle of recitāre recite v.
A person who recites (in various senses); a reciter.
