Origin: A borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element. Etymons: Latin recalēscere , -ence suffix.
Etymology: < classical Latin recalēscere to grow warm again, to warm up (see recalesce v.) + -ence suffix.
Materials Science.
The temporary generation of heat associated with a change in crystal structure or atomic arrangement when a material (usually a metal) is cooled through a transformation temperature (sometimes sufficient to produce a brief rise in temperature).
