Origin: Formed within English, by compounding. Etymons: bio- comb. form, -lysis comb. form.
Etymology: < bio- comb. form + -lysis comb. form. In sense 1 after German Biolysis ( C. H. Schultz Lehrb. der allgemeinen Krankheitslehre (1844) I. 177). Compare earlier biolytic adj.
