Origin: Either (i) a borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element. Or (ii) a variant or alteration of another lexical item. Etymons: Latin redact- , redigere , -er suffix1; rédacteur n.
Etymology: Either < classical Latin redact-, past participial stem of redigere (see redact v.) + -er suffix1, or an alteration of rédacteur n. after words in -er suffix1. Compare slightly later redact v. 4, and discussion at that entry.
