Origin: A borrowing from Latin; modelled on a French lexical item. Etymons: Latin reductorium, reductorium morale.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin reductorium (in reductorium morale, title of a work by Pierre Bersuire (c1290–1362); use as noun of neuter of reductorius (see reductory adj.); compare -ory suffix1), after French réductoire (in réductoire moral, title of the French translation of Bersuire's work: mid 14th cent. or earlier in Middle French).
Obsolete. rare.
A condensed version of a text.Only attested in references to the Bersuire's work (see etymology).

Carrying a fluid back to a point of origin, as blood back to the heart. Cf. reducent adj. 1.
