Etymology: < French rédhibitoire (second half of the 13th cent. in Old French as redebitoire ) and its etymon classical Latin redhibitōrius relating to redhibition (2nd cent. a.d.) < redhibit- , past participial stem of redhibēre to take back or give back (see redhibition n.) + -ōrius -ory suffix². Compare earlier redhibition n.In quot. 1728 translating an illustrative example in Trévoux (1721).
