Etymology: < re- prefix + -flation (in inflation n. or deflation n.), probably after reflate v.
Economics.
The reversing or countering of deflation (deflation n. 3); spec. (a) (occasionally) the restoration of currency or prices to pre-deflation levels; (b) the stimulation of activity in an economy by monetary or fiscal means. Also: the fact of returning from a deflationary state to one of expansion or inflation.
