Origin: Formed within English, by compounding; partly modelled on a German lexical item. Etymons: reflection n., -ometer comb. form.
Etymology: < reflect- (in reflection n.) + -ometer comb. form, in sense 1 after German Totalreflectometer (F. Kohlrausch 1878, in Annalen der Physik und Chemie 4 4).
Physics.
1. In full total reflectometer. An instrument for determining the refractive index of a transparent solid (or liquid) by measuring the critical angle for total reflection. Also in extended use. Now rare.
