Etymology: Acronym < the initial letters of either Return of Forces to Germany or Redeployment of Forces to Germany.
Now historical.
An annual military exercise in which NATO forces are deployed to Germany. Frequently attributive.The exercises started during the Cold War as a rehearsal for quickly strengthening military resources in Europe in the event of a conflict with the Soviet Union.
