Etymology: < reform v.1 + -ier suffix (compare -eer suffix1), after reformado n., probably by analogy with other nouns in -ier suffix and -eer suffix1 denoting military personnel (usually of French origin) first attested in the 16th and 17th centuries, e.g. halberdier n., musketeer n., etc.
Scottish. Obsolete.
