Origin: Probably a borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin rēgālia.
Etymology: Probably < classical Latin rēgālia regalia n.1 (compare -y suffix3). Compare Middle French regally (masculine) royal authority, throne (c1470 with reference to England), regalie (feminine) royal dignity (1471), administration of a church while the seat is vacant (1497). Compare regalia n.1 and Romance forms cited at that entry. Compare also regal n.1, regality n.1
Obsolete.
